In this project, we were once again able to utilize our strengths and combine our passions of mixed reality, rapid prototyping and interaction design in one project. We wanted to enrich an ordinary mixed reality experience by adding the often missing part of tactile interaction in digital space. The scenario we chose was based on spraying walls with paint: We programmed an AR application on the Meta Quest 3 and converted a real spray can so that it could communicate with the Quest using wireless technology and provide the user with tangible feedback. As a result, the user puts on the VR glasses, sees their real environment through the camera feed and can spray digital graffiti on their real walls by actuating our converted spray can. Our spray can behaves like a genuine one: it emits spatially correct sound, simulates spraying colorful mist and generates resistance and a vibration when the spray head is actuated.
